Working Hands Scrub Recipe

Spring time means the return of warm weather, which for me means that I am outside digging in my garden and flowerbeds. I have several flowerbeds and a decent sized garden so I spend quite a bit of time in the dirt and pulling weeds from now until fall. If I’m being honest though, I actually find pulling weeds and working in the dirt therapeutic. It is deeply satisfying to see the difference an hour can make when pulling weeds. However, I hate wearing gardening gloves. I prefer to feel the dirt in my hands but with this comes hands that seem to always have a brown or green stain on them. Yesterday, I mixed up a batch of the Working Hands Scrub I have used for the last several years and thought I would share it today.

I’m not sure where I found this recipe, probably on the internet somewhere! I love that it not only scrubs the dirt and weed residue off of my hands but is also moisturizing. I use it every time I come in from working in my gardens or with the animals. Its super simple and inexpensive to make, which makes it even better!

Working Hands Scrub Recipe

  • 1 cup of sugar (I used white granulated sugar but have used brown sugar in the past as well)
  • 1 tablespoon of salt (I used Kosher salt because that is what I had but table salt works too)
  • 1/2 cup of coconut oil melted or very soft (can also use olive oil or grapeseed oil)
  • several drops of essential oil (I use Tea Tree oil because it has antibacterial properties and I always have little cuts on my hands after working outside)

Just mix it all together in a small bowl and store in a jar or container with a lid. Simple! I keep mine next to the sink in an antique candy dish my grandma gave me. A half-pint mason jar would be perfect too.

Let me know if you try it and what you think of it! Happy spring!
